Abstract

Kesejahteraan psikologi adalah aspek penting dalam menentukan kebahagiaan dan kesihatan mental seseorang. Kajian ini bertujuan mengenalpasti pengaruh strategi daya tindak dalam hubungan kecerdasan emosi dan kesejahteraan psikologi pelajar luar bandar miskin di Sabah. Responden kajian ini adalah seramai 430 orang pelajar yang berumur 13 hingga 18 tahun daripada beberapa buah sekolah luar bandar di seluruh Sabah. Kajian ini menggunakan alat kajian The Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) bagi mengukur kecerdasan emosi, Coping Strategy Inventory Scale (CSI-S) dan Ryff Scales of Psychological Well-Being bagi mengukur strategi daya tindak dan kesejahteraan psikologi pelajar. Strategi daya tindak engagement dan disengagement didapati bertindak sebagai separa perantara dalam hubungan kecerdasan emosi dan kesejahteraan psikologi. Kajian ini menyediakan maklumat kepada pelbagai pihak terutamanya pelajar, ibu bapa, guru-guru, penyelidik mahupun pihak berwajib tentang kepentingan kecerdasan emosi dan strategi daya tindak terhadap kesejahteraan psikologi pelajar luar bandar miskin di Sabah.

Psychological well-being is an important aspect in determining the happiness and mental health of a person. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of coping strategies in the relationship of emotional intelligence and the psychological well-being of poor rural students in Sabah. The respondents of this study were 430 students aged 13 to 18 from several rural schools throughout Sabah. This study uses The Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) for measuring the emotional intelligence, Coping Strategy Inventory Scale (CSI-S) and Ryff Scales of Psychological Well-Being to measure student psychological well-being. The coping strategies of engagement and disengagement are found to act as a partial mediator in relationship of emotional intelligence and psychological well-being. This study provides information to various parties, especially students, parents, teachers, researchers, and authorities on the importance of emotional intelligence and coping strategies towards the psychological well-being of rural poor students in Sabah.
